April is Poetry Month—Here is a poem to share with someone who thinks they don’t like poetry.

Do we really need to ask ourselves why too many people, young and old, don’t like poetry? Poetry has been treated poorly with the constant demand to analyze and examine.

Why not treat a poem as it wishes to be treated—as a gift which delights the senses. Enjoy the way the words sound, the way the poem looks on a page, the feelings the poem summons. With the best of gifts, lets not expect anything in return. There is no quicker way to extinguish the pleasure of poetry than to ask what a poem means. A poem a day is akin to a vitamin for the spirit. Simply enjoy this poem by Ogden Nash

I find it very difficult to enthuse
Over the current news.
Just when you think that at least the outlook is so black that it can grow no blacker, it worsens,
And that is why I do not like the news, because there has never been an era when so many things were going so right for so many of the wrong persons
